How CampusCom Phone Service Works

Overview

As a Home Phone, CampusCom works very simply. Once you've signed up for CampusCom's service and have selected your package, we ship you a hardware device. You then connect that device to your internet connection (instructions can be found here) and connect your regular home phone to the device. You can then make and receive calls using your CampusCom home phone without paying enormous phone bills.

Without Borders

You can have a telephone number in the city of your choosing or have a phone number in multiple cities. You can take your phone with you if you travel and talk to other CampusCom members absolutely free.

Cell Phone Application

As a Wifi Cell Phone, you can use your regular cell phone to access CampusCom service when in wifi internet hotspots. So if you're on a campus, or in a cafe or in a city or office building with wireless internet access, you can (through an application called Fring, with a Nokia compatible cell phone or with an Android phone with Sipdroid installed) connect to the internet to use CampusCom and use less minutes with your regular service provider, saving you money.

You can also connect to a G3 network instead of a wireless/wifi hotspot to use your cell phone to make calls with CampusCom. However, your cell phone service provider may charge you extra money to access their data network. Check with your service provider for information on accessing your data network.

CampusCom is currently working on more ways to make its wifi cell phone service more practical. We will soon have local access numbers in major cities accross Canada which you can call to make long distance calls with your cell phone, again saving you lots of money on cell phone costs.

Remember, cell phone usage is a bonus that comes at no extra charge if you have a Home Phone system with CampusCom. You will be charged on your home phone account at your home phone package's rates.
